MY NOTABLE BIKE RIDES, #1

For many years, I have been a keen bike rider, so I thought I'd jot down my memories of some of the more notable rides I have undertaken. Oh, and I'm talking about bicycles, i.e. road bikes, not motorbikes.

My first 'ride of note' was probably in the spring of 1962 (the year after I finished High School) but I can't really be sure. It wasn’t a long ride by any stretch of the imagination but it became a memorable one.

MEMORIES OF MOLONG

There's quite a story involved in this post and not so many photos but you know what they say about changes and holidays! (A change is as good as a holiday.)

The chief attraction in Molong is the 'Animals on Bicycles' exhibition, if I can call it that. It is actually a series of roadside exhibits, stretching some 120 kms along the Banjo Patterson Way from Molong.......

A VISIT TO........ AUBURN BOTANICAL GARDENS AND MENAGERIE

It's now more than 2 years, since my sister-in-law introduced me to these terrific gardens, located in Sydney's suburbs. It's amazing to think that there are urban councils developing such wonderful facilities for the local people, as well as the odd person from the country (like me), who happens upon them. Somewhat like finding an oasis in the desert, I reckon!

BIRDS, BIRDS, BIRDS........Part Two

Well, it's been over 4 months since I posted part one of this series, so I guess it's time I got the thinking-cap on again. I've managed to sort out all the bird shots during this period, some good, some not so good, so here we go.......

The first half-dozen shots were taken on an all-too-brief sojourn in Sydney and down the south coast to Jervis Bay in March last year. I had planned on checking out all the little, out-of-the-way places that can be accessed by ferry around Sydney but the weather wasn't really conducive.

MY 70TH BIRTHDAY BASH

Day 1 - A Disappointing Start

The long-awaited camping holiday finally began on Monday, 6th October, (3 days ago), which was a public holiday here in N.S.W., as well as being the last day of the spring school holidays, so there was a fair amount of traffic on the Hume Highway right from Yass.

BIRDS, BIRDS, BIRDS.......Part One

.....or the Good, the Terrible and the Really, Really Ugly.

This little story had its beginnings near the end of July, 2013, when I purchased a new bird lens for my Canon 7D SLR camera. When I say 'bird lens', I mean, simply, that it's a lens with a focal length long enough to capture birds - and other native fauna - in the wonderful Aussie bush (i.e. forest).

2014 GOLDFEST - GRENFELL

The annual Goldfest festival came to Grenfell last Saturday, 27th September, 2014, as part of the Gold Trails series of events through many towns in the Central West of N.S.W. [See: http://www.goldtrails.com.au/]

My camera and I made the arduous journey up to Main Street (a little joke there - it's about a 2 minute walk!) and here's what I saw:
