For many years, I have been a keen bike rider, so I thought I'd jot down my memories of some of the more notable rides I have undertaken. Oh, and I'm talking about bicycles, i.e. road bikes, not motorbikes.

My first 'ride of note' was probably in the spring of 1962 (the year after I finished High School) but I can't really be sure. It wasn’t a long ride by any stretch of the imagination but it became a memorable one.

Have you tried to do a MANUAL Windows Update on your Windows 7 laptop and been frustrated, because it seems as though nothing happens? If so, read on........ oh, and it won't cost you a cent, either.

Now, before we start and just to clear the air, I'm not one of those computer geeks who confuse you with hip computer lingo, I'm just an old codger - or geezer, if you like - who has had the Windows Update problem on my Windows 7 laptop and FIXED IT MYSELF.

If you have Googled for an answer, as I did, this site may have come up. I tried almost every item on his list - including one that is a download of over 500 MBs! However, none of it fixed my problem and he wanted money to 'go further', so I did a little lateral thinking...... (some thinking music here would be good.......)

It occurred to me that a little while back I switched from using Piriform Defraggler for my defrags, to using the generic Windows one. It was much quicker in operation but I had NO IDEA whether it was doing the job properly, i.e. accurately.

[If you're sitting there asking "what's a defrag?", then that may be your problem right there! You really need to learn a bit about computer maintenance.]

Sorry about that diversion...... Okay, here's the crux of what I did to fix my Windows 7 machine:
I downloaded the latest version of Piriform Defraggler via the Filehippo site. This link takes you to the page, where you just click on the big, green button. They will try to sell you a better version but the free one works well for me, if slowly.

I had used Defraggler for a number of years but never really knew whether it was doing a satisfactory job - until now, that is. After doing a re-start (always do a re-start), I went straight to Windows Update AND IT WAS WORKING AGAIN!!! I trust that it will work as well for you.

There's quite a story involved in this post and not so many photos but you know what they say about changes and holidays! (A change is as good as a holiday.)

The chief attraction in Molong is the 'Animals on Bicycles' exhibition, if I can call it that. It is actually a series of roadside exhibits, stretching some 120 kms along the Banjo Patterson Way from Molong.......

A Molong scene.

It's now more than 2 years, since my sister-in-law introduced me to these terrific gardens, located in Sydney's suburbs. It's amazing to think that there are urban councils developing such wonderful facilities for the local people, as well as the odd person from the country (like me), who happens upon them. Somewhat like finding an oasis in the desert, I reckon!

BIRDS, BIRDS, BIRDS........Part Two

Well, it's been over 4 months since I posted part one of this series, so I guess it's time I got the thinking-cap on again. I've managed to sort out all the bird shots during this period, some good, some not so good, so here we go.......

The first half-dozen shots were taken on an all-too-brief sojourn in Sydney and down the south coast to Jervis Bay in March last year. I had planned on checking out all the little, out-of-the-way places that can be accessed by ferry around Sydney but the weather wasn't really conducive.

Day 1 - A Disappointing Start

The long-awaited camping holiday finally began on Monday, 6th October, (3 days ago), which was a public holiday here in N.S.W., as well as being the last day of the spring school holidays, so there was a fair amount of traffic on the Hume Highway right from Yass.

BIRDS, BIRDS, BIRDS.......Part One

.....or the Good, the Terrible and the Really, Really Ugly.

This little story had its beginnings near the end of July, 2013, when I purchased a new bird lens for my Canon 7D SLR camera. When I say 'bird lens', I mean, simply, that it's a lens with a focal length long enough to capture birds - and other native fauna - in the wonderful Aussie bush (i.e. forest).
