BIRDS, BIRDS, BIRDS.......Part One

.....or the Good, the Terrible and the Really, Really Ugly.

This little story had its beginnings near the end of July, 2013, when I purchased a new bird lens for my Canon 7D SLR camera. When I say 'bird lens', I mean, simply, that it's a lens with a focal length long enough to capture birds - and other native fauna - in the wonderful Aussie bush (i.e. forest).

2014 GOLDFEST - GRENFELL

The annual Goldfest festival came to Grenfell last Saturday, 27th September, 2014, as part of the Gold Trails series of events through many towns in the Central West of N.S.W. [See: http://www.goldtrails.com.au/]

My camera and I made the arduous journey up to Main Street (a little joke there - it's about a 2 minute walk!) and here's what I saw:

MORE OF THE YELLOW STUFF

Spring has definitely sprung out here in the Central West of N.S.W., Australia. There are large tracts of yellow canola blossoms all over the place. Some of it is quite tall, too. Friends of mine have some that would have to be at least 4 feet tall!!

Anyway, here's my latest couple of efforts with the camera, using canola crops as the subject. Both of them made it to 'Explore' in Flickr, which is rather amazing.

2014 Henry Lawson Festival @ Grenfell, part 2

The 2014 Henry Lawson Festival at Grenfell, N.S.W., Australia kicked off on the Friday before the Queen's Birthday Holiday weekend but didn't get into full swing until Saturday, 7th June. That was when I got amongst the action with my camera, the Procession down Main Street being the chief attraction. Here's how it looked to me:

As I walked up to Main Street for the procession, I captured this shot of the old type of coach that used to be the chief form of transport in N.S.W. out beyond the 'beaten track'. I could be wrong but I believe it's an original Cobb & Co. coach, except that they used to operate with more horses up front.
